Jean Driscoll, eight-time Boston Marathon winner, will kick-off Disability Awareness Month with a motivational talk about perseverance and determination. Her presentation will surely set the tone for the month of activities that will follow.
Air Rifle Clinics with Illini On-Target
5:00pm - 6:30pm, Rehab Education Center Basement
Mondays in April and Monday, April 1: Come test your precision and accuracy with the Illini On-Target club. They will instruct participants in range procedures, firearm safety, and shooting techniques. No prior experience necessary.

Job Search 101

Kay Stenberg, an alumna of the University of Illinois, will discuss the different stages of job searching: the resume, networking, sourcing job leads, preparation for successful interviews, the interview, salary negotiations, and how a disability affects the job search. Lunch will be provided for the first 20 students registered.

Mike Gartner from Procter & Gamble will be on campus to provide an Informational Session on internship and employment opportunities available, if you qualify. P&G recruits for the following areas:
Research & Development, Engineering, Information Technology, Manufacturing, Finance & Accounting, Marketing, Customer Business Development/Strategic Selling.
Applicants typically must have a 3.0 and above GPA.

Ultimate Baskteball Challenge

The University of Illinois will be hosting the first annual Ultimate Basketball Challenge. This event will be a fund-raising wheelchair basketball game between the University of Illinois Men’s and Women’s basketball teams and the Men’s and Women’s Wheelchair Basketball Teams. All the proceeds from the game will be donated to Coaches vs. Cancer and the University of Illinois Wheelchair Basketball Teams. In a game that the wheelchair basketball team hopes to be the first of many, Brian Randle, Rich McBride, Shawn Pruitt, Lori Bjork, Audrey Tabon along with all their teammates, will sit in wheelchairs and play alongside the wheelchair basketball athletes. Tickets for the event are $5.00 and are available for purchase at the U of I Ticket Office.

Rock for Research is a registered student organization designed to organize various benefit concerts with 100% of the proceeds/donations go toward the research related to Spinal Muscular Atrophy. Disability Disclosure Workshop
4:30pm-6:00pm, Room 404 Illini Union
This presentation/workshop will look at the legal issues involved in disclosing your disability in the employment process, along with some of the advantages and disadvantages of disclosing information related to your disability, illness, or injury. In addition it will discuss strategies to help you in making a decision about when and how to disclose, how much information should be given, and how any possible negative consequences of the disclosure could be minimized.

Endeavour Safaris offers tours for the following disabilities: Mobility Impaired, Hearing Disabilities, Visual Impairments, Oxygen Users, Kidney Dialysis, and Tours & Safaris for Seniors.

The magic will “WOW” you and the comedy will have you in tears as Magic Matt and Josh Blue roar through the night. At 3 feet tall, Matt is larger than life! His skill with his hands will bewilder people of all ages for hours. And, most importantly, his charm will keep you wanting more, no matter how many times he makes you crazy with his tricks.
Josh Blue’s amazing life began in Cameroon, West Africa, and has taken him around the world performing his hilarious stand-up routine and competing for the US Paralympic Soccer Team. Through undeniable charm and laughter, Josh breaks down preconceived notions about people with disabilities.

2006 Michael J. Ellis Distinguished Lecture Series on Communication Disorders

Dr. Connie A. Tompkins, from the University of Pittsburgh, will provide an overview of the nature of language comprehension and social interaction problems that can affect adults who incur unilateral right hemisphere brain damage. Dr. Tompkins will also exemplify some results of her ongoing research on language comprehension in these individuals, focusing on three areas of interest: modulation of lexical-semantic activation; processing of higher-level nonliteral/inferential language; and reasoning from a Theory of Mind. Finally, Dr. Tompkins will illustrate some implications from collected data for focusing clinical intervention with such individuals.

Christy Smith, the first deaf contestant on "Survivor: The Amazon" will captivate the audience with her story and experiences as a contestant, as well as her personal successes and challenges. She will encourage the audience to challenge themselves and convince those in attendace to "make a difference".

Lex Frieden Presentation

DRES will be hosting an informative and exciting discussion
with Lex Frieden, (Chairperson of the National Council on
Disability, Senior Vice President of The Institute for
Rehabilitation and Research, and Director of the Independent
Living Research Utilization program) on Friday, April 28, at
1:30pm. We are planning to provide this presentation by video conferencing. Mr.Frieden will provide a brief presentation on the
current issues relevant to young people with disabilities and
then engage in an open conversation with the audience to
address their specific concerns and comments.

tremendous experience and superior expertise in the field.
