Adjusting the voice used to read from the screen

Omni 1000 uses two voices to read from the screen:

  1. The Reading voice is the voice Omni 1000 uses to read the files and documents that you open or scan in.
  2. The System Voice is the voice Omni 1000 uses to speak messages, buttons, etc.

You can choose from a variety of male and female voices, so that you have the quality of voice you prefer, and you can choose the pitch of that voice as well. The following instructions will guide you in doing this, as well as tell you how to hear a sample of your chosen voice.

Three steps to adjust either of the voices used to read from the screen:

  1. Press Alt+T, then R to access the Reading Voice dialog box, or S to access the System Voice dialog box. The appropriate dialog box appears.
  2. Press the Up or Down Arrow keys to move through the list of voices. Each voice is spoken as you pass it.
  3. Press Enter to accept the voice you want.

 

Four steps to change the pitch for a desired voice:

  1. Using the appropriate dialog box, press Tab until you hear "Pitch,"
  2. Use the Right or Left Arrow keys to select the desired value.
  3. Press Tab until you hear "OK."
  4. Press Enter.

 

Two steps to hear sample speech for a highlighted voice:

  1. Using the appropriate dialog box, press Tab until you hear "Test."
  2. Press Enter. The voice which you have chosen will begin to read, so you can determine if that voice and pitch will suit your needs.
