Reading text from a floppy disk

NOTE: A voice will read what is on the screen, including menus and commands. There are two voices used:

  1. The Reading Voice is used to read files that you open.
  2. The System Voice is used to speak messages, button and menu names, and warnings.

Three steps to reading text from a floppy disk

  1. Insert the floppy disk in the 3-1/2" drive.
  2. Change to the drive which contains the document to be read
  3. Open the document to be read

Six steps to change to a different drive:

  1. Press Alt+L to open the Folder menu.
  2. Press C to access the Change Folder menu item.
  3. Press Tab until you hear "Select drive," followed by the name of the drive.
  4. Press the Up or Down Arrows until you hear the name of the floppy drive (which may sound like the word "uh"), then stop pressing the arrow.
  5. Press Tab until you hear the word "OK"
  6. Press Enter to select the floppy drive  The voice will read the selected item so you can verify that it is selected correctly.

Three steps to open the document to be read:

  1. Press Ctrl+O, to open the Open File window.  The voice will tell you to select a file to open.
  2. Press the Up or Down Arrows until you hear the voice speak the name of the file you would like to open.
  3. Press Enter to choose that file. The file will be opened, and your location in the document (such as "page one of one") will be spoken. The voice will then begin to read the document.
