Using OMNI 3000 with Shortcut Keys
Adjusting the voice used to read from the screen
To adjust the voice, open the Speaker Characteristics dialog box. Using this
dialog box, you can select the speaker voice,
speed, and volume.
One step to open the Speaker Characteristics dialog box:
- Press Alt+T, then press R. The Speaker
Characteristics dialog box appears.
To select the voice:
You can choose from among 14 different voices. There are four steps to
choose a voice:
- Click in the white circle in front of the name to select a voice.
- Press Tab until the Test Speech button is highlighted.
- Press Enter; the selected voice will read the statement on the
white screen beneath the voice list.
- To stop the voice, press Tab until the Stop Speech button is
highlighted, then press Enter.
To select the reading speed:
To set the reading speed, use the Speaker Characteristics dialog box:
- There are five steps to set the reading speed:
- Press Alt+T, then press R to access the
Speaker Characteristics dialog box.
- Press Tab until the Default box under Speaker Speed is
highlighted.
- Press the Tab one more time to highlight the Words Per Minute
slider.
- Press the Right Arrow to raise or the Left Arrow to
lower the speed.
- Test with the Test Speech/Stop Speech buttons:
- Press Tab until the Test Speech button is
highlighted.
- Press Enter; the selected voice will read the statement on the
white screen beneath the voice list.
- To stop the voice, press Tab until the Stop Speech button is
highlighted, then press Enter.
The Reading Speed can also be set on the Omni 3000 screen, by using the WPM
window, which is just above the main window. One step to set the speed:
- Click on the Up or Down arrowheads to adjust the speed.
To adjust the speaker volume:
To set the reading volume, use the Speaker Characteristics dialog box:
- There are five steps to set the reading volume:
- Press Alt+T, then press R to access the
Speaker Characteristics dialog box.
- Press Tab until the Default box under Speaker Volume is
highlighted.
- Press the Tab once more time to highlight the Low/High slider.
- Press the Right Arrow to raise or the Left Arrow to
lower the volume.
- Test as above with the Test Speech/Stop Speech buttons.
- Press Tab until the Test Speech button is
highlighted.
- Press Enter; the selected voice will read the statement on the
white screen beneath the voice list.
- To stop the voice, press Tab until the Stop Speech button is
highlighted, then press Enter.
