Three steps to select characters to the left or right

  1. Be sure the cursor is positioned to the immediate right or left of the character you want to select.
  2. Press SHIFT plus the left or right arrow key to select the character.
  3. To deselect, press ESC and an arrow key.

Three steps to select to the beginning and end of a word

  1. Be sure the cursor is at the beginning or end of the word you want to select.
  2. Press CTRL+SHIFT+left cursor key to select to the beginning of a word or CTRL+SHIFT+right cursor key to select to the end of the word.
  3. To deselect press ESC and an arrow key.

Three steps to select to the end of a line

  1. Be sure the cursor is at the beginning of the line you want to select.
  2. Press SHIFT+END.
  3. To deselect press ESC and an arrow key.

Three steps to select to the beginning or end of a line

  1. Be sure the cursor is at the beginning of the line you want to select.
  2. Press SHIFT+HOME to select to the beginning or SHIFT+END to select to the end.
  3. To deselect press ESC and an arrow key.

Two steps to select one line up or down

  1. Press SHIFT then the up or down cursor key to highlight the line you want to select.
  2. To deselect press ESC and an arrow key.

Three steps to select to the beginning or end of a paragraph

  1. Be sure the cursor is within the paragraph you want to select.
  2. Press CTRL plus the up or down cursor key to highlight the paragraph you want to select.
  3. To deselect press ESC and an arrow key.

Two steps to select one screen up or down

  1. Press SHIFT then PAGE DOWN or PAGE UP.
  2. To deselect press ESC and an arrow key.

Three steps to select to the beginning and end of a slide

  1. Press CTRL+SHIFT+END to select to the end of the slide or CTRL+SHIFT+HOME to select to the beginning of the slide.
  2. To select the entire document press CTRL+A.
  3. To deselect press ESC and an arrow key.

Two steps to select one or more objects

  1. To select a specific object press ESC+TAB until the object you want is selected. Make sure the object you want to select is surrounded (highlighted) by small dots.
  2. To select all objects in a slide (while in slide view) press CTRL+A.

Selecting slides and text

  1. To select all slides (while in slide sorter view) press CTRL+A
  2. To select all text (while in outline view) press CTRL+A.
