UNIX Pine: Retrieving and reading your e-mail
Seven steps to look at an e-mail message sent to
you
- At the MAIN MENU Press L to look the FOLDER LIST. The words "SELECT
HERE TO EXPAND FOLDER LIST" will be highlighted.
- Press the ENTER key and a list of folders will appear. The list
of folders will include "INBOX", "saved-messages",
and "sent mail"
- Use the LEFT and RIGHT arrow keys to highlight "INBOX" and
press the ENTER key. A list of e-mail messages sent to you will
appear on the screen.
- Move through the list with the UP and DOWN arrow keys. For each
message you will see the name or e-mail address of the person who sent
you the mail and possibly the subject of the message. As you move
through the list of messages each will be highlighted.
- Press the ENTER key to read a highlighted message.
- When you are done looking at the message Press I to return to the
list of messages.
- At any time Press M to return to the MAIN MENU
Moving around inside the message sent to you
If you are reading a long e-mail message it might not all fit on the
screen. Use the following commands to view the part of the message
that is not on the screen.
| To move one line up or one line down |
Press the UP arrow or the DOWN arrow |
| To move one page down |
Press the Space Bar |
| To move one page up |
Press "-" |
Two ways to delete an e-mail message
- While in the INDEX MENU
- While reading the message
While in the INDEX MENU
- Press D to delete a message that is highlighted in the INDEX MENU
- A "D" will appear to the left of the message number
- To undelete the message press "U"
- Messages with a "D" to the left of their number will be
deleted when you exit Pine.
While reading the message
- Press D to delete a message that you are currently reading
- The message will be marked with a "D" and the next message
will appear on the screen
