Viewing your files using Desktop Icons within "My
Computer"
By activating the My computer Icon you will see all the places your computer
stores files including the Icons for the floppy disk, hard drive, and cd rom.
You can use My Computer to quickly and easily see everything on your computer
C:\ drive such as the names of all your files and folders. Instead of
double-clicking the My Computer Icon you can access the contents in three ways
with the keyboard:
First way; 5 Steps:
- Type the CONTROL key once.
- Type the ESCape key twice.
- Type the TAB key twice.
- Press the Spacebar once to change the color of the "My
Computer" Icon.
- Type the ENTER key to open My Computer.
Second way; 8 Steps:
- Type the CONTROL key once.
- Type the ESCape key once to open the Start menu.
- Type the P key for Programs.
- Type the W key until "Windows Explorer" becomes
highlighted.
- Type the ENTER key to open Windows Explorer.
- Type the TAB key until the C:\ drive is highlighted.
- Press the Up arrow key to highlight "My Computer".
- Type the ENTER key to open "My Computer".
Third way; 7 Steps:
- Type the Microsoft Window key for the Start menu. The key is always
between the CONTROL and ALT keys at the left end of the desktop
pc keyboard.
- Type the P key for Programs.
- Type the W key until "Windows Explorer" becomes
highlighted.
- Type the ENTER key to open Windows Explorer.
- Type the TAB key until the C:\ drive is highlighted.
- Press the Up arrow key to highlight "My Computer".
- Type the ENTER key to open "My Computer".
"My computer" has many useful capabilities, a few of them are:
- To find specific files, or viewing many at a glance
- Seeing how much space you have on your hard disk
- Formatting floppy disks
