Glossary of ZoomText 5.2 terminology

  1. Locator - provides visual representation of the viewport. As a zoom window is scrolled, the Locator moves to show the new viewport.
  2. Normal Screen - refers to the Microsoft Windows screen as it appears without magnification
  3. Panning - automatically scrolls a zoom window during screen review operations
  4. Scrolling - this changes the contents of a zoom window, allowing any part of the normal screen to be displayed in the zoom window
  5. Viewport - the area of the normal screen that is currently magnified in a zoom window.  By using the locator, you can readily see which part of the screen is being magnified.
  6. Zoom Window - a rectangular portion of the screen that contains a magnified view of the normal screen.

The Locator:

The locator is a means of showing you which part of the unmagnified screen is displayed in a zoom window. You can control the display of the locator, as well as its shape. The shape of the locator can be a filled ractangle, a framed rectangle, or a cross.

By default, the locator is turned off. To turn it on, use the Locator dialog box: There are two steps to access it:

  1. Press ALT+O for the Options menu.
  2. From the Options menu, press L for Locator.

Once the Locator dialog box is open, you can choose which shape you would like the locator to take, turn the locator on or off, or have it blink.

The Viewport:

The Viewport is the area of the normal screen that is currently being magnified by ZoomText and shown in a zoom window. By using the Locator, you can readily see which portion of the screen is being magnified. Follow the steps listed above to select the shape of the Locator that allows you to see the Viewport most easily. You can increase the visibility of the Viewport even more by making it blink.
