The ZoomText User Interface

When ZoomText 5.2 starts, the ZoomText user interface is displayed in the upper left hand corner of the screen. The interface consists of menus and tools that allow you to use ZoomText and manipulate its zoom windows.

The ZoomText user interface consists of:

  1. A menu bar that contains four pulldown menus.
  2. A tool bar that contains 12 tool icons.
  3. A status bar that displays a description of the highlighted tool.

The ZoomText menus:

The menu bar contains the following four menus:

  1. The File menu - with this menu, you can load or save ZoomText configuration files and define the default ZoomText configuration. All ZoomText settings can be saved to and loaded from configuration files. These settings include magnification levels, zoom window settings, tracking options and shortcut keys (hotkeys).
  2. The Window menu - using this menu, you can select a Primary zoom window type and enable Secondary zoom windows. A single zoom window - the Primary - is always displayed, and up to five Secondary zoom windows can also be displayed.
  3. The Options menu - with this menu, you can access ZoomText dialog boxes to adjust various settings. The Options settings are: magnification, tracking, review, color invert, alignment, locator, hotkeys, and cursor.
  4. The Help menu - with this menu, you can get on-line help for all ZoomText features.

The ZoomText tools:

Underneath the menu bar on the ZoomText user interface are the ZoomText tool icons. They are in two rows of six icons each, and represent buttons which can be selected.

From left to right, the first row contains:

  1. Zoom on/off - turns ZoomText on or off.
  2. Scroll tool - used to scroll a zoom window.
  3. Zoom-Out tool - used to see and move the viewport of a zoom window.
  4. Set Target tool - used to set screen targets.
  5. Track tool - used to turn tracking on or off in a zoom window.
  6. Color tool - used to invert colors in a zoom window or over the entire screen.

From left to right, the second row contains:

  1. Magnify - used to change the magnification level of a zoom window.
  2. Review - used to review the screen or an application window.
  3. Window - used to size and move a zoom window.
  4. Hit Target - used to jump to screen targets.
  5. Align - used to change the alignment of a zoom window.
  6. Help - displays on-line help for all ZoomText features.

The Status Bar:

The status bar is at the bottom of the ZoomText user interface. When a tool is highlighted, a brief description of its function is shown in the status bar. If you do not know what a tool will do, click on its icon to see its description in the status bar.
