Adjusting speaker and speech settings

You can customize the speech output in ZoomText Xtra! to fit your needs. To do so you can choose the speaker voice from among ten choices, as well as choose the rate, pitch, and volume of the voice. These changes are made in the Speech dialog box.

Two steps to open the Speech dialog box:

  1. With the ZoomText Xtra! user interface active, press ALT+O to open the Options menu.

  1. Select the Screen Reader tab at the top of the Speech Dialog box:
  2. Press E for "Enable speech output." A check mark will appear in the box in front of the words, indicating that Enable speech output is selected.

Two steps to choose the voice you wish to use:

  1. Press TAB until the Voice window is highlighted and the name of the speaker is spoken.
  2. Press the up or down arrow until the voice you wish to use is highlighted and spoken. The name will then appear in the "Voice" window.

Two steps to change the rate, pitch, or volume of the voice:

  1. Press TAB until the box for the desired characteristic (rate, pitch or volume) is highlighted and spoken.
  2. Press the up or down arrow until the desired percentage of that characteristic is reached.

Two steps to test the voice and characteristics of the speaker you have chosen:

  1. To hear the chosen voice, press TAB until the you hear the words "Speak Sample" and that button is highlighted.
  2. Press S or ENTER to hear the chosen voice. You may do this as often as you like.

Twp steps to keep the voice and characteristics of the speaker you have chosen:

  1. Press TAB until the "OK" button is highlighted.
  2. Press ENTER. The Dialog box will close.
