Career Corner

Located in the east lobby of the Rehabilitation Education Center.

The Career Corner is a special, self-service collection of career resources for students who are exploring careers, looking for internships or conducting a job search. The Career Corner contains career profiles, occupational descriptions, how-to guides, and information about career programs and job fairs.

Upon request, we will work with you to provide access to information in alternative formats.

Career Corner books DO NOT circulate; however, Informational fliers on career exploration, internships, cover letters, resumes, interviews and job search are available to take with you and may be requested in alternative formats.

The Career Corner is sponsored by The Career Center and DRES. For additional career resources, visit the career library located in The Career Center at 715 S. Wright Street, Champaign (across from the Alma Mater).

UTILIZING THE CAREER CORNER

Here are some suggested activities:

  1. Explore the basic activities, educational requirements, salary and hiring projections for various careers.
  2. Identify essential functions of occupations that interest you.
  3. Learn how to write effective resumes or cover letters.
  4. Get an objective opinion about your resume.
  5. Find out why internships are important and how you can seek one.
  6. Identify career programs you can attend to find out more about your career concerns.

  2. Dictionary of Occupational Titles (DOT)- brief descriptions of 12,741 jobs arranged categorically
  3. Encyclopedia of Careers and vocational Guidance - four volume comprehensive career reference which profiles 87 industries and over 1,500 occupations
  4. The Enhanced Guide for Occupational Exploration - organizes 2,800 job descriptions into 12 major interest areas to facilitate exploration of career alternatives
  5. Occupational Outlook handbook (OOH)- descriptions of 250 occupations which represent 90% of the workforce. Narratives include information about skills, training, earnings and related occupations ( http://stats.bls.gov/ocohome.htm )
