Illinois Students Taking Effective Preparation

Annual Transition Program for Students With Disabilities

This is a one-day transition program designed to effectively prepare students for their first year of college at the University of Illinois. This is a great opportunity to learn about university services and also meet other incoming students. Students will participate in an online training module prior to coming to the one-day orientation.

Topics to be covered include:

  1. Introduction to services offered by the Division of Disability Resources and Educational Services (DRES)
  2. Overview of academic accommodations for students with disabilities and how those differ from high school accommodations
  3. How to become an effective advocate for yourself
  4. Understanding strengths and weaknesses secondary to disability
  5. Time management/Study skill strategies and effective learning habits
  6. The use of assistive technology/computer skills and how these can help you
  7. Orientation to college life
